What an incredible revelation of the purpose of life and the purpose of Christ, the selfless “non ownership” of the life that we often see as “ours”, when it really is “His life”, that we steward for a while.
Paul’s revelation leads to life being not about me, or even you, but about Christ and a much bigger picture of purpose. The sovereignty of God and the submission of man coming together for a cause eternal, that can often be missed, or even seen as contrary to life by the natural man.
We must keep our eyes on the bigger picture, bigger purpose and just play our part today, knowing that it all fits together to produce a picture (fulfil a purpose) that we might never get to see with our natural eyes.
There will be times where we lose sight of the bigger purpose, that’s when God will either speak to us Himself or perhaps place a person next to us with the words “who knows that you are here for such a time as this”…our life (once committed to Christ, and even before) is a pathway of purpose, designed by God, for God.
Walk with eyes wide open.
Read the passage carefully and prayerfully…incredible…as you continue to read through Philippians you will constantly see this thread of revelation in Paul’s words.
Philippians 1:19-26 AMP
For I am well assured and indeed know that through your prayers and a bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ (the Messiah) this will turn out for my preservation (for the spiritual health and welfare of my own soul) and avail toward the saving work of the Gospel. This is in keeping with my own eager desire and persistent expectation and hope, that I shall not disgrace myself nor be put to shame in anything; but that with the utmost freedom of speech and unfailing courage, now as always heretofore, Christ (the Messiah) will be magnified and get glory and praise in this body of mine and be boldly exalted in my person, whether through (by) life or through (by) death. For me to live is Christ His life in me, and to die is gain the gain of the glory of eternity. If, however, it is to be life in the flesh and I am to live on here, that means fruitful service for me; so I can say nothing as to my personal preference I cannot choose, But I am hard pressed between the two. My yearning desire is to depart (to be free of this world, to set forth) and be with Christ, for that is far, far better; But to remain in my body is more needful and essential for your sake. Since I am convinced of this, I know that I shall remain and stay by you all, to promote your progress and joy in believing, So that in me you may have abundant cause for exultation and glorying in Christ Jesus, through my coming to you again.
